Current Position
Pallavaram PTIETC CETP with treatment capacity of 3000m3/day is being periodically upgraded utilizing financial support from Central and State Governments. The adoption of ZLD system with Multiple Stage Evaporator (MEE) system for Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) management was found not suitable for Pallavaram PTIETC CETP. As an alternative sustainable option for TDS management PTIETC proposalfor mixing / dilution of the treated tannery effluent with treated domestic sewage at Perungudi STP was approved byTamilNadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB). This project component is being implemented through Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (CMWSSB).
The TNPCB accorded approval in its proceedings dated 03.07.2017 & 01.04.2019 for mixing / dilution proposal for TDS management in PTIETC CETP which envisage the followingupgradations:
Upgradation of PTIETC CETP by improved Equalization-cum-Mixing, Aerobic Biological system with Jet Aspirators, Advance Oxidation system using Ozone treatment to ensure the treated effluent meeting the dischargeparameters for dilution system.
Processing of the entire treated effluent with membrane system adopting Ultra-filtration (UF) and recovery of water by adopting Reverse Osmosis (RO) system and treatment of residual stream with Two Stage Advance Oxidation system by establishing Ozone treatment for colour and residual COD removal. This noval treatment is first of its kind in Indian Leather Sector.
Laying new pipeline system for the conveyance of treated effluent to Perungudi STP through pressure line, mixing /dilution arrangement at Perungudi STP and discharge into Buckingham Canal for meeting the discharge parameters of TDS. This project component is being implemented through CMWSSB as per the directions of TNPCB.
The overall implementation of upgradation project with a financial outlay of Rs.53.03crores is under progress with funding byDPIIT, Government of India, Government of TamilNadu and CETP members’ contribution. The Technical team consisting of Dr.S.Rajamani, Chief Technical Consultant and Members Mr.R.Kanthakarthick andMr.R.Sivaganesh in association and co-operation with Technical Agency (TA) M/s.SVV Engineering Industries, M/s.Varadarajan& Co, Auditing Agency and PTIETC CETP Management under the surveillance of Project Monitoring Consultant CSIR-CLRI rendering services for the Upgradation and Continued Operation & Maintenance of the PTIETC CETP.
